Wokingham Foodbank

Donation made May 2020

Wokingham Foodbank is a registered charity set up in 2013, to provide food for vulnerable people in our community who are unable to feed themselves. Most commonly, these are people who are faced with a decision to eat or pay bills, due to difficult unforeseen circumstances. We are an all volunteer service that remains viable through food and cash donations from local residents and businesses, and from successful grant applications. Currently our annual operating costs total almost £30,000, including rent, food storage costs, insurance, utilities, and other general expenditure. The latter relates exclusively to supporting mothers and their young children. Last year Wokingham Foodbank helped nearly 2500 local people, of which over 1000 were children. Our volunteer group of nearly 80 local people is totally dedicated to the Foodbank mission, and any financial help that we receive to sustain our operation provides a tremendous morale boost. In this period, where we have volunteers who are forced to self isolate, this will be tremendously important as the demands on us have increased nearly four fold.

The Wokingham Foodbank is part of The Trussell Trust’s network of over 400 foodbanks, working to tackle food poverty and hunger in our local communities, as well as across the UK.
